Welcome back to hollykhome, friends! I am so glad you have stopped by for my holiday slow down tips! I haven’t blogged in quite some time because I started working two jobs about 6 months ago. By choice, not by necessity mind you. So blogging has been on the back burner. But I’m back ya’ll!
So anyways, this is just a fun post with some ideas on how to stop, slow down and savor this holiday season. I have either worked at a mall or in some sort of retail job for the past 8 years so savoring the holidays doesn’t come easily or naturally. I wanted to share with you some of the easiest (I mean, like, super easy) ways to not let yourself get caught up in the ever-present hustle and bustle.
Scroll down to the bottom of the post for some of my top picks for coziness and relaxation!
Jesus is the only One who can offer us ultimate peace and serenity. I tend to sweat the little things in life… I get mad easily while driving. I am not a patient person by nature and I get hangry pretty quickly. These symptoms of selfishness get exacerbated during the holidays when everyone seems to be on edge. Grab your Bible and find comfort in being in God’s presence. The best idea anyone has ever had.
Oh this gets me so excited. After a long day at work, all I want to do is put on my Uggs (a Christmas present to myself), grab a fuzzy cardigan or a robe and start my relaxation routine. This most definitely includes lighting a candle. This time of year, something woodsy or vanilla scented is perfect. The classic Capri Blue Volcano Candle is inviting and relaxing. It has a fresh spa scent which is wonderful any time of year. Or if you’re an oil kind of girl, diffuse some peppermint and orange. I can’t speak on grocery store oils (I personally wouldn’t recommend them) but Doterra or Young Living have tons of yummy options and a quick google search will find plenty of holiday blends.
This is definitely an easy one. If you’re anything like me, you don’t need to be told twice to get yourself a fancy (or not) adult beverage. You’ve got your fuzzy slippers on, candle is lit and maybe a vintage Christmas record is playing on your turntable (or on spotify, because we’re not all hipsters). Then it’s time to reach for your drink of choice. My first pick for a nightcap is generally red wine. But this time of year, some rich hot chocolate or spiced apple cider would warm you right up.
Ahhh. Time to officially clock out from daily life and relax. Give yourself some grace, girl. You’ve probably been on your feet all day so kick em’ up and turn on The Santa Claus. Go ahead and enjoy the holidays with a little alone time. If you’re one who can’t just sit down and chill completely, maybe starting plans and setting goals for 2018 would take some stress out of facing the new year. Check out below for some other cozy (and perhaps productive) picks!
